Medical Research:
The Liggins Institute

The Liggins Institute is a world-leading research institute at the University of Auckland. We are committed to improving lifelong health through excellent research into the determinants of a healthy life: before conception and at every stage of the lifespan. Our goal is to give every baby a healthy start for a healthy life.

From cellular research to clinical trials, we take a collaborative and transdisciplinary approach to research. This enables us to view health problems from different angles and to explore the therapies and interventions that have the biggest impact on lifelong health.

Our research helps to identify the factors that contribute to good health and disease. For example, working out the best nutrition for preterm babies or investigating the role our genes play in the development of diseases like diabetes and obesity. We are also proud to host the Human Health Research Services Platform, a service available to any researcher looking for help with data management or clinic space to support for their human health research project. The Liggins Institute is committed to contributing both to health knowledge and the delivery of healthcare that informs the best possible outcomes for the people of Aotearoa New Zealand and the wider world.

Aotearoa Foundation currently supports 3 post-doctoral fellowships and  the first undergraduate Clinical research internship program at the University of Auckland  that allows 2nd and 3rd year Medical Studnets participate in an existing research program over 2 years.
